It seems almost incredible: exit from a fast-rolling road, cover only a few hundred meters and you will find yourself in the midst of waved hills that extend as far as the eye can see between fields and countryside ...
I'm not Italian and the first times I've discovered these landscapes I've been speechless; even now, after years that I live here, I'm always fascinated by it ... but it is normal, we're in Italy, where everything is wonderful!
As I said, I left the main road that connects Porretta Terme with Bologna on one side and with Pistoia on the other, I followed some curves (three, to be exact), then the road goes up slightly and opens in front of me countryside, fields and hills.
It is spring, the sun is splendid and nature is in full explosion around me. The fields are a triumph of fragrant and colorful flowers, the countryside is precious and cared for in detail.
The road continues. There are some scattered houses and there are also villas, all are built in stone.
This is how I arrive in Casa dei Bombi. The name "bumbo" is nice; here the bumbos are harmless insects similar to plums and are very important for the pollination of the plants.
Parking my car a bit away from the house because I don't want it to appear in the photos.
Ah, I forgot to tell you that today is the day of the photo shoot.
Arrival, I ring the bell and the gate opens.
The house is beautiful, a real "wow" effect, new and derived from the structure of an old barn. It is a design construction, built with maniacal care by a mason. The owner told me that the mason took 10 years to complete it.
Mario, the masonry, has chosen to preserve all the original material of the barn: for example, the stones are the authentic ones, derived from the ancient quarries of Montovolo, a very fine and now rare rock type.
In addition, Mario has opted for natural materials in the building: lime mixed with hazel grove, new oak wood and antique chestnut, stone, iron with large inserts and glass surfaces.
The roof was entirely made of wood, finished with marine plywood, and the external couples are ancient and original. All the gutters and the descendants are made of copper, as well as all the external ducting.
The house is a jewel of rare beauty, spacious and comfortable, perfect for life in the mountains. There is also a swimming pool! (the water is colored with photoshop, I will return to photograph it when used.
The house has a beautiful entrance porch, a double living room with fireplace and stove, a spacious and cozy kitchen and two beautiful glazed verandas that serve as openable rooms.
On the upper floor there are three attic rooms, each with an exclusive walk-in wardrobe. One of these also has a private bathroom, while the other bathroom is for the other two bedrooms.
But what is the point of describing a house like this? It is like Dante who did not find the words to express the beauty of what he saw; I'm also hardworking to describe this house, so ... it is better than looking at the photos; -)

The house is about 15 km from the border with Tuscany and just an hour drive from Florence, the area offers numerous attractions:
- Rocchetta Mattei:
The Rocchetta Mattei Castle, dating back to the second half of the nineteenth century, has an eclectic mix of styles, from the medieval to the Moorish, and is also known as the Castle of the Illusions.
- Borgo La Scola:
This ancient village, dating back to the 1400s, is an enchanted place of the Apennines, founded by Matilde di Canossa and subsequently converted into a residence by the comacini masons.

The historic spa resort dedicated to Queen Elisabetta, with its healing waters, is a renowned point of interest and tourist attraction.
- Montoval:
The ancient Abbey of Montovolo, dating back to 1200 and built on a sacred Etruscan mountain, has for many years been the Basilica of the city of Bologna.
