Even today, every year they celebrate the feast of hospitality that took off in 1200 when the Column was built .
Bertinoro, a medieval village full of walls, towers and ancient houses is also known as the "City of Wine." Legend has it that Galla Placidia, daughter of Emperor Theodosius when visiting the area, tasted a wine served in a humble cup saying "not so crude chalice are worthy but Berti in oro (drink it in a golden cup)" hence the name.
For those who love also sporting life, Bertinoro is located on the hilly streets that are home to the famous amateur cycling race called " La 9 Colli "(the nine hills), that takes place every year in May and attracts cyclists from all over Europe.
