Description
MONTECRETO ... and to describe this beautiful farmhouse, what could be better than using the story that the owner did to me?
Enjoy your reading!
"To talk about the Borgo di Strettara we must start from a Charter of 1584 in which for the first time a road is named that from Cutigliano (Gr. Ducato di Toscana) passing through Fiumalbo, Pievepelago, Riolunato and Strettara allowed to reach the lands of the Montecuccoli in the Frignano area. The route passed through the middle of our village and is still accessible on foot, on cycle or on horseback.
The oldest construction of the village dates back to the end of the 1700s and stood on this ancient cart track that rose from the Scoltenna stream (550 m above sea level) and then allowed passage to humans, animals (livestock, mules, flocks etc.) and wagons from from the Municipalities of the high Modena and Tuscan Apennines and bound for Frignano.
Going up from the Ponte dei Leoni, rebuilt in stone at the beginning of the 1700s on pre-existing wooden bridges, the first village you met was that of Casa Mucci, just beyond Casa Digano, then Casa Magnani, Garrada and Casa Bagatti up to Valdalbero; from there, passing through Vaglio, you could reach, as now, Lama Mocogno and the Modenese.
In our village the imposing manor house, built in the first half of the 1800s, dominates from a beautiful hill, rich in centuries-old oaks on the sunniest side, the valley below with the hydroelectric power station, the Scoltenna and all dominated by the parish church of Montecreto (800m asl).
The village consists of an older construction in stone, built on several levels (late '700) on a rocky outcrop, completed and enlarged in the mid-1800s (1854) as reported on the door jamb on the lower yard.
At the end of the first half of the 1800s the splendid manor house was built by the notary in Lama M., which, with the hamlet, is located in the central point of the fund consisting of 35 hectares of which 13/14 are cultivated fields and 22 consist of coppice.
A detail that does not escape the visitors of the village is the presence of a four-light stone bell tower, behind the manor house, used since the end of the 19th century and in the first decades of the 20th century to signal to the inhabitants of the two sides of the Scoltenna the development of celebrations in a small church dedicated to the Madonna del Ponte, about 450 meters from the village built around 1713 (Don Apollonio Zanelli) and today no longer present.
The most recent construction (1950) is the large barn (for that time) in front of which a large opening of the cart track, in the 1900s, allowed the vans of the Dairy of Montecreto to come and collect milk morning and evening.
In the '60s the road that from Lama Mocogno to the Ponte dei leoni was finally traced and paved and completed; now this artery allows, remaining at low altitudes, to reduce the mileage and transit times between the medium-high Apennines of Modena (Montecreto, Sestola, Fanano, Riolunato, Pievepelago and Fiumalbo) and the Tuscan one (Cutigliano, S.Marcello Pistoiese etc. ).
The construction of the Strettara Tunnel (1,200 m.) Which starts 200 meters beyond the bridge and the new Strettara-Montecreto link via the ring road (2 km) makes connections with Tuscany, Modena and Bologna extremely fast, bringing great interest to all areas. to rediscover. "
