Description
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE PROPERTY
Arpino (Via Marco Agrippa) Borgo Antenangeli Santulli, a unique property in the heart of Arpino.
The history of this property dates back to the late 1500s, when the Antenangeli family purchased a plot of land strewn with Roman ruins. Over the years they built a property spreading over 4 floors. On the staircase at the first ramp in a niche rises the only, it is said, known specimen of the statue of Hercules Teban, on an Egyptian granite column.
On the third floor of the palace there is the Louis XV-style Neapolitan gentile chapel, almost perfectly preserved, that includes the finely carved marble sarcophagus that contains the body of St. Vittorino Martyr. Pope Pius IX with papal bubble of 13.3.1869 granted the privilege of the celebration of three consecutive masses on February 26, the day of the feast of the Saint.
Between the house and the olive grove, also included in the price, there is what is considered the oldest street of Arpino, only pedestrian: the Greek Way, so named because, as the writers report, it was made by Cicero and his Greek slaves.
During his reign, King Gioacchino Murat was also a guest of the family.
Local tradition tells that at the Antenangeli family, King Murat loved to go to the top of a watchtower in Mount San Jerome to sign their official cards and has since then it has been called the tower of Murat. The watchtower is included in the sale.
THE PROPERTY
In the borgo you can access from various entrances, the one of historical importance is on Via Marco Agrippa, on the mezzanine floor there is the cellar, very airy and dry of about 50 square meters.
The first floor, of more than 170 square meters is used as a private exhibition museum, which can be visited, where the current property preserves numerous ancient works of art (paintings and sculptures) made largely by the current owner; it consists of an entrance, triple lounge with two-meter high fireplace, kitchen, wide disengagement with study, a service, library and two other rooms. In each room there are exposed beams, terracotta floors and each door is made with ancient stone arches.
On the third floor, we find an important fresco restored before the entrance to the property that represents the ancient coat of arms of the Antenangeli family; from here you have access to the Noble floor of more than 500 square meters so composed : wide entrance where there is preserved the Chapel of Kindness, double living room with coffered ceilings and fireplace, important boardroom, dining room, tea room with attached covered panoramic terrace, living kitchen with attached laundry area and pantry, master bedroom, impressive loft library with 7-meter high wooden ceilings, second room with bathroom and hot tub, third room with bathroom and suite and fourth room for guests.
The kitchen window door provides access to a charming 1800s antique cobblestone staircase where there are two additional detached apartments, the first is 65 square meters, consisting of a large room and bathroom, the second is 75 square meters on two levels with wooden mezzanine.
Climbing further and bordering the Greek route, from which it has a second access, there is the enchanting hanging garden of over 300 square meters Dominante and Panoramic on the city of Arpino with numerous fruit plants where is perfectly preserved the original spring that brought water to the Antenangeli family.
The historic Tower of Murat, part of the property is the last of the 4 watchtowers of the city, and the flagship of the Borgo; in its terraced gardens there is the important olive grove composed of about 200 plants for a total of more than 3000 meters.
A huge, exclusive paved car park of over 100 square metres, just 30 metres from the main entrance, completes the total.
