Small history of Moricone
The toponym of Moricone derives from Monte Morrecone, on the top of which was the original nucleus of the Castle. The historic origin of the village is, however, controversial. According to some sources, the original castle stood in the area of the ancient Orvinium, others argue that the castle was built on Regillum, a third hypothesis, however, is based on an old chronicle of the Abbey of Farfa. Finally, there is the possibility that the village was born at the ancient Antemnae, one of the thirty colonies founded by the ancient Latins in the Sabino territory, as suggested by the books of Tito Livio.
The first historic citation that refers to the village dates back to the 13th century. In an act of 1272, it is said of a castle built on Monte Morrecone by the family of the Counts of Palombara Sabina, the "De Palumba". Later, the castle passed to the Savelli, who added it to their feuds. In 1611 the property will pass to the prince Marcantonio Borghese in 1611 for the figure of 100,000 shields plus half of the castle of Pietraforte. Prince Borghese, who came into possession of the inhabited, built many important works that turned the face of Moricone.
Since 1871, the Torolonia took over the Borghese, thanks to a double restriction. Finally, a few decades ago, the possessions passed to the Sforza to be sold and plotted among the inhabitants of the place.
