Volastra is located in the municipality of Riomaggiore, located just over Manarola along the road leading to Corniglia and Vernazza.
The village is 300 meters high and like the rest of the Cinque Terre, it is characterized by dry stone walls, olive trees and vines. The shape of the village is circular and follows the development of the hill on which it is set. Perhaps of Etruscan origin, its birth dates back to more probably the Roman period, as for Manarola. The narrow paved carugi overlook the high houses colored by the beautiful stone portals with dated basoriche and opens the square where stands the sanctuary of Our Madonna della Salute dating back to the 12th century.
From Volastra it is possible to reach with paths of short and medium size Manarola and the other lands, admiring not only the sea, but also the drywalls, partly covered by the Mediterranean scrub, partly still cultivated with vines, such as those of the Valle dei Pozzi and the Costa da Possa, from which is obtained the precious sciacchetra wine, the valuable walkway of the Cinque Terre and the white DOC Costa da Posa wine.
