Monuments and places of interest
Castle On the western part of the town there is the castle of Moniga, a very well preserved late Romanesque structure. The castle was never inhabited by a lord but was a place of refuge for the monigans in cases of danger. Having never been inhabited by a noble, it was never attacked, thus managing to maintain its original appearance. Church of San Martino
The parish church is dedicated to San Martino. In ancient times it was a chapel that depended on the parish of Manerba. On 13 October 1454 it was consecrated by Bishop Ermolao Barbaro and dedicated to the patron saint of the military, a cult introduced by the Franks Church of Our Lady of the Snow
The church dedicated to the miracle that took place in Rome, on the Esquiline Hill, on August 5 of the year 352 is in Romanesque style and was built during the sixteenth century, it is listed in the records of the pastoral visit of Bishop Gian Matteo Giberti of the second half of the sixteenth century.
Moniga del Garda The origin of the name of Moniga del Garda is not certain. In a first hypothesis it is connected to the Como Lomaniga (in the apheretic form), which derives from Lumena to which the suffix "-ica" should be added. The second hypothesis indicates it deriving from the Latin ammonius. The town is nicknamed "Città del Chiaretto" from the name of the typical rosé wine, characteristic of Valtenesi, obtained from the Groppello grape variety through a particular fermentation in rosé. Since June 2008, the national review of rosé wines "Italia in Rosa" has been organized in Moniga. Also important is the local production of DOP Garda Extra Virgin Olive Oil, produced with a Protected Designation of Origin. The origins of the town are very ancient, there are in fact the remains of a stilt house dating back to about 1800-2000 BC, age of the ancient Bronto. While an altar testifies to the presence of the Romans of the 4th and 5th centuries BC. On the western part of the town there is the castle of Moniga, a very well preserved late Romanesque structure.
