Polpenazze del Garda (Polpenàs in the Garda dialect) is an Italian municipality of 2,710 inhabitants located in the province of Brescia, in the Valtenesi area, near Lake Garda. It is mainly known for the production of Valtenesi Wine and Garda Oil. Every year the "Fiera del Vino" is held there, from the last weekend of May to the first days of June [4], among the streets of the historic center. Historically, it is worth remembering that the Tenuta Le Posteghe Palace in Polpenazze was the seat of the Ministry of National Defense during the Italian Social Republic. Polpenazze is located on the western shore of Lake Garda and is one of the seven municipalities of Valtenesi. It is characterized by hilly terrain and is therefore a predominantly agricultural area. The typical crops are viticulture and olive growing. The main grape variety is Groppello, followed by Marzemino, Sangiovese and Barbera. Polpenazze is the largest oil producer in Valtenesi. Picedo, the largest hamlet of Polpenazze del Garda, is also well known. Archaeological investigations carried out by the Gruppo Grotte Gavardo in 1965, 1986 and currently underway, have confirmed the existence of the first human settlements near Lake Lugone, which was a small infra-moraine lake, drained between the fifteenth and eighteenth centuries and located between the hills of Cassaga, Brassina and San Pietro. The settlements in question, dating back to the Bronze Age, were of the pile-dwelling type, except for the oldest, from the final phase of the Neolithic (2nd half of the 4th millennium BC); its population practiced hunting, fishing, but above all agriculture and livestock breeding. As reported by Mazza (1986), Polpenazze was dominated by the Celts and the Etruscans.
