In the historical centre of Menaggio  there are many interesting monuments which recall its importance throughout the ages. In Via Calvi among fashionable shops, on the facade of the church of S. Marta, the memorial plaque of Minicio Exorato, a notable of the Roman empire testifies the long history of the town. Narrow cobble stoned alleys lead up to the area called castello, the medieval part of Menaggio. The second oldest Golf of Italy was founded here in 1906.
