Geographical data: Sarnano rises at the foot of the Sibillini Mountains, dominated to the west by the northernmost peaks of the chain, which on the eastern side show their steep rocky walls, furrowed by rugged valleys and gorges. The village is located on a hill to the right of the Tennacola stream, on a tongue of land enclosed between the latter and its tributary, the Rio Terro. The territory, mainly hilly, stretches to the east between valleys, woods and cultivated fields. Towards the north, the reliefs slope down into the ancient lake floor of Pian di Pieca (San Ginesio) dating back to the Quaternary. [4]

The municipal area is closed to the west by the last northernmost peaks of the Sibillini Mountains: from Monte Castel Manardo (whose top is the highest point of the municipality), continuing north towards Monte Valvasseto, Monte Sassotetto, Pizzo di Meta , the Punta del Ragnòlo, the Pizzo di Chioggia. On the slopes of these mountains arise the main streams of the area: the Tennacola and the Terro, its left tributary. Both dig gorges between the rugged rocky walls of the mountains: the Tennacola crosses the Gola dei Tre Salti between Castel Manardo and Monte Valvasseto; the Terro digs the Jana Valley between Pizzo di Meta and Punta del Ragnòlo.
