Further information on request. We would be happy to organize a viewing appointment. nn The residence is located on the upper edge of Pfuß, a small district of Kaltern, somewhat hidden between houses. The "Gschlössl" - as it is popularly known - is located at the foot of the Mendel at 544 meters above sea level. It stood alone until 100 years ago, situated between a small stream - the Pfußer Lahn - and the group of houses around St. Rochus Church. The Mühlburg estate is recorded alongside the Campan estate as a noble estate in the Atlas Tyrolensis - the first map of the province of Tyrol based on a geodetic survey and one of the most important international cartographic achievements of the 18th century.
The estate was first mentioned in 1231; the residential tower was originally known as the "Turm in Pfuß" (popularly known as the "Pfußer Gschlössl" or "Schlössl" for short). It was the Lords of Morenberg who had the estate converted into a manor house called Mühlburg and also lived there. The Morenbergs came from Sarnonico am Nonsberg and were originally called de Moris. In 1510, Emperor Maximilian I of Habsburg granted them the noble title of von Morenberg. In the period around 1600, their property included the Morenberg estate in Sarnonico, the entire area around the Mendel Pass including the inn, the Windegg agricultural estate and the Mühlburg estate in Kaltern. In 1584, the "Turm in Pfuß" was rebuilt by the Italian architect and master builder Silvestro del Gallo, who worked in Kaltern, together with the stonemason Bernardo Pariano for Johann Anton von Morenberg into the manor house it is today. After the death of the eldest son Friedrich and thus the extinction of the noble Morenberg family, the building passed to his widow Maria Brigitta von Arz in 1628, who soon married Baron Karl Colonna von Völs.
In 1664, the small estate passed to the barons Käßler von Boymont, for whom the buildings also served as a residence after Boymont Castle burned down. The last aristocratic owner was Karolina, née Countess von Wolkenstein, who sold the estate to a certain Jakob Wally in 1801. This marked the end of the "noble" era of the "Schlössl" in Pfuß after 200 years. From then on, the estate was in bourgeois and peasant ownership, which it still is today. According to oral tradition, the estate was used by the imperial hunters of the k.u.k. Monarchy during the First World War as a temporary camp on their retreat and in the era of fascism under Mussolini as an illegal catacomb school to ensure the instruction of pupils in their native German despite the ban. nn nn All information is subject to change, non-binding, without guarantee and based on information provided to us by our client.
