Description
The old mill belonged to a descendant of the navigator Giovanni Da Verrazzano. The three-arch bridge within the property, dating back to Roman times, was the only link between the northern and southern parts of the area, before the 19th-century single-arch bridge further upstream was built. The rooms echo the layout of the old mill and are therefore not exceptionally large. The ground floor houses a living room with 2 living areas and a fireplace, a library on a gallery with a cast-iron balustrade, a dining room, a hallway, a bedroom currently used as a study, a kitchen with adjoining laundry room, an office, a bathroom, and storage room in the crawl space. All exterior stone or concrete walls have been rebuilt from scratch. The property is completely self-sufficient due to its two springs. Heating is underfloor with a state-of-the-art gas boiler. Given the thickness of the walls, the house is cool inside in summer and does not require air conditioning. Solar panels allow hot water production without boiler intervention and complete the heating system. The 3 kW photovoltaic panels can reduce electricity consumption by about 70%.
