Reputedly founded by the Romans in 102 BC, Sillano (734m asl) is a peaceful and ancient mountain village, surrounded by woodland and mountains in the Orecchiella Park.
Sillano has a grocers, butcher, general store and chemist as well as a post office, library, bank, doctor's surgery, café and hotel/restaurant. The village has its own nursery and primary school, while secondary schooling is available in Piazza al Serchio, just 5km from the property. There is a tennis court and “bocce” (bowls) in the village. Both Sillano and the surrounding villages organise a number of festivals throughout the year.

Piazza al Serchio also provides many shops and amenities, including an open-air swimming pool. It has a train station on the main Pisa/Lucca to Aulla train line.
