Iesa, Palace of the 13th century
The building
The local historical documents confirm that in the 13th century The Case was one of the hamlets of Lesa. The Palace was (and is still) the most prominent building in the area and involved vast stretches of land between Lesa and Siena. It produced wheat, olive oil and wine, and was an important employer. The Palace, which measures around 680 square meters, still retains the original wine barrels and the olive grove, and currently has only six hectares of land, of which 70 are olive trees. The ground floor of 263 square meters, includes the crusher, the cellar with oak barrels and the laundry room. The first floor, of 167 square meters, includes 5 rooms and a kitchen, all with rustic terracotta flooring. The original travertine staircase leads to the second floor of 166 sq.m, where there are 5 large bedrooms, two of which offer a view of the woods of the Val di Farma and, in the distance, the Crete Senesi. Further stairs lead to an attic of 85 sqm, consisting of 3 rooms. The rooms on the ground floor overlook the surrounding olive fields, a public side path and the square in front.
The words of the owner
Have you ever wanted the peace and tranquility of the countryside by living in an oasis of greenery? This is what I discovered when I lived and worked in a stressful environment in London in 2001, and I visited Lesa for the first time on holiday. The natural beauty of the unspoilt forests, the night tranquility and the sounds of the morning birds were a delight and, as for the stars at night, they were breathtaking. It was these sensations (which Mother Nature offers for free), that impressed me and gave me the impetus to buy a house here in Lesa.
In 2002 I purchased perhaps the largest abandoned house in the area, The Palace 15 in the Palazzo area, one of the six villages of Lesa. The purchase from the church also included a Palazzo 12c barn and 2.1 hectares of land, of which 70 are abandoned olive trees. Since then my journey has begun. I restored the barn in 2003 and since then I have spent several months here every year. I produced olive oil and shared tastings with the neighbors, I took part in the town festivals (sagra), I joined the kitchen team and was trained on the secrets of the famous boar gratuity (sagra al bisho). I have enjoyed the myriads of walks through the local woods, experienced the bathrooms in the spa waters of the nearby Bathroom of Petriolo and learned to appreciate the unique flora and fauna that offers the Valle del Farma. This is the "real" Tuscany that many tourists never experience.
I sell with a heavy heart, however, my home town, Australia, and my family call me.

Entering the main square of the Palazzo, there is a huge house that overlooks the surrounding woods and the Senesi Crete.
