Description
On the rolling Tuscan hills, along the Via Francigena and overlooking the beautiful medieval city of San Gimignano and its hills famous for its production of Vernaccia DOCG, we offer the iconic Villa Ducci.
The hotel structure has 26 rooms, which can accommodate over 60 people. The reception is accessed via an Art Nouveau staircase from the large square, from here you can easily reach the bar area, the breakfast room, the kitchens and the ancient cellar excavated in the sandstone. This portion of the structure includes a very useful conference room and the fabulous dining room open on three sides thanks to the windows and equipped with a beautiful wooden lookout from which you can admire the valley, the swimming pool and the towers of San Gimignano. Next to the main property there is the former barn which, following exceptional renovation, also houses the apartments. The over 3 hectares of land complete the Villa park.
A bit of history:
immersed in a spectacular countryside, in the 1300s Villa Ducci already existed; at the time it was a watchtower and, since then, it was the ideal place from which you could admire San Gimignano.
The Villa Ducci hotel, founded in 2003 by a careful renovation, is spread around this ancient tower, one of the 72 that in the Middle Ages were dominating the landscape of this town with a unique history throughout the world.
The towers in San Gimignano are not born for defensive or military reasons: they were isolated elements that did not belong to a fortified system and did not even have access doors covered by cadastral trees or balestrian windows.
The towers had the symbolic meaning of expression of the power of the family that owned it. The higher the tower was and the greater the importance of the family and it is for this reason that, based on the alternate events of their owners, the towers were raised or lowered.
In Villa Ducci are still visible today the traces of this incredible history. On the ground floor of the villa in fact, there is the system of the tower, around which, over the centuries, there is a company center consisting of warehouses, warehouses and the houses of the wage earners. To complete the entire complex, at the end of the 1700s the villa was built, a summer residence of the Ducci family, of which the hotel still bears the name.
