Città della Pieve is an Italian commune of 7 499 inhabitants in the province of Perugia in Umbria. It is situated on a hill, about 508 m above sea level, overlooking the Val di Chiana, a few kilometres from the border between Umbria and Tuscany.
Local legend has it that, until the end of the last century, this magnificent structure was the ancient post office of Città della Pieve, i.e., the refreshment point where people would arrive at the border of the Papal States, take refreshment and eventually stay, and then leave with fresh, rested horses for other destinations.
