The fertility of the land allows excellent quality in the production of cereals, fruit trees, wine grapes but certainly excellence is reached with the most precious plant in the gastronomic context of the area and in particular of Spello: the olive tree .
Not by chance as well as being included among the most beautiful villages in Italy, the town is part of the National Association of Città dell'Olio.
Founded by the Umbrian authorities, it was called Hispellum in Roman times and declared Splendid Cologne Julia by Giulio Cesare. The entrance to the August city is allowed through 10 doors that open along the long walls, once much larger than was preserved until today, of Roman and Medieval origins.
Precious collections of works of art, including frescoes from the Pinturicchio, Perugino and the Spacca, are present in the main Churches of the city. The eighteenth-century Chapel of the Sacrament should be remembered, probably to be attributed to the Piermarini.
Worthy of note among the many are also: the Urbani building, today the headquarters of the Municipality, with its wooden loggia; Palazzo Baglioni, a testimony of the period when the city was administered by the Perugia family that owns the county of Spello and Bettona; Villa Constanzi, better known as Villa Fidelia which houses events and concerts over the year.
Folklore and agri-food traditions.
There are three regional and national events that characterize the tourist and folklore cultural life of Spello: the ' Infiorate di Spello ', 'Hispellum-Roman festival' , 'Finestres, Balconies and flower alleys' , the 'Incontri per le strada ' (months of July and August), the ' Feast of the Olivo ' and 'Fagra della Bruschetta' .
